Novaporte, the group behind a 13-year effort to build a container port in Cape Breton, is shifting its focus to developing an offshore wind manufacturing and logistics terminal in Sydney Harbour. The new proposal would support manufacturing, transportation, maintenance and other parts of the offshore wind supply chain, with the company saying it has attracted investor interest at a recent federal investment summit. Membertou First Nation, which holds a 25 per cent stake in the project, says the container-port plan has been shelved for now as it seeks opportunities in Nova Scotia’s emerging offshore wind industry. The shift comes as Premier Tim Houston promotes his $ 60-billion Wind West plan, while the region faces major infrastructure needs and the municipality considers renewed talks over the use of city land for the offshore wind project.
